Eight teams will be in action at the Asia Cup 2025 hockey tournament in Rajgir, Bihar, from August 29 to September 7.
The Asia Cup 2025 hockey draw and schedule were officially announced by the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) earlier this week.
This year’s quadrennial continental showpiece – the 12th edition of the men’s Asia Cup – also carries added significance as a qualifying event for the 2026 Hockey World Cup, to be jointly hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium.
Pakistan and Oman were originally listed but withdrew; they have been replaced by Bangladesh and Kazakhstan.
What’s At Stake?
The men’s Asia Cup winner earns an automatic berth at the FIH Hockey World Cup, Belgium & Netherlands 2026.
Six teams have already qualified for that event: hosts Belgium and the Netherlands, Australia and Spain (via recent FIH Pro League campaigns), Argentina (via the Pan American Cup) and Germany (via the EuroHockey Championship).
Africa and Oceania will allocate three more continental slots, while the remaining seven World Cup places will be decided through FIH World Cup Qualifiers in 2026. For Asian teams, the Asia Cup represents one of the most direct and prestigious routes to the world stage.
Format, Groups & Teams
As per the format of the Asia Cup 2025, the eight teams have been divided into two groups of four teams each. After single-headed round robin matches, the top two from each group will make the Super 4s stage.
After the teams face each other in the Super 4s Pool, the top two will face off in the Asia Cup 2025 final on September 7. The third and fourth-placed teams from the Super 4s will play in the third-place playoff on the same day.
Pool A: India, Japan, China, Kazakhstan
Pool B: South Korea, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei
