Reports suggest the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) is a top Army-run real estate brand, valued in billions, with the Army’s total business estimated at around $100 billion

Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir has recently made headlines following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. During his second US visit, he issued threats to India involving nuclear weapons and missiles. Notably, Munir leads a luxurious lifestyle, sharply contrasting with the widespread poverty in Pakistan.

The Pakistani Army is often referred to as the largest business group in the country. Reports indicate that the army operates over 100 companies, many of which generate substantial profits, leading to a significant income for the Army.

Top officials, including the Army Chief, such as Asim Munir, benefit greatly from this arrangement. Being an Army officer in Pakistan is highly advantageous and profitable, akin to being the CEO of a large corporation. Essentially, Asim Munir serves as the CEO of more than 100 companies.

The influence of the Pakistani Army extends beyond the defence sector. The army has a significant presence in the real estate market, managing numerous large institutions. These include the Fauji Foundation, Army Welfare Trust, Shaheen Foundation, and Bahria Foundation, which, despite their names, function more like business corporations.

The Pakistani Army is also reportedly involved in various industries such as cement, banking, dairy, and transport. In cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, land is acquired under the guise of national security and then developed into profitable housing projects. Reports indicate that the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) is one of the most renowned real estate brands managed by the Army, valued at billions of dollars. Estimates suggest that the total current value of the army's businesses could be around US$100 billion.

Field Marshal Asim Munir’s total assets are estimated at around $800,000 (approximately Rs 7 crore), underscoring how Pakistan’s Army chief role extends beyond the uniform and gun, serving also as a conduit for wealth and influence.
