In a significant boost to the spiritual outreach of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams(TTD), the Assam government has agreed in principle to allot 25 acres of land in Guwahati for the construction of a Lord Venkateswara temple, marking a major step towards establishing the first such shrine in Northeast India. The decision followed a series of consultations between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

The extent of land was enhanced from the initially proposed 10.8 acres after concerns were raised about an overlap with an existing temple and cultural complex in Kamrup Metropolitan district. In a letter dated December 18, Mr. Naidu urged the Assam government to allot land within Guwahati, citing the city’s strategic importance as the gateway to the Northeast. He also recalled that Andhra Pradesh had earlier allotted 25 acres of land in Amaravati for a similar temple.

Responding positively, the Assam government also agreed to extend financial support for the project. Thanking both the Chief Ministers, TTD Board Chairman B. R. Naidu said the required formalities would be completed soon and that construction of the Lord Venkateswara temple would begin at the earliest.
