Guwahati: Quick and coordinated response from Assam Rifles on Friday prevented a fire at Manipur’s densely populated Pangal Basti area in Tengnoupal district from getting out of control.Posing a serious threat to nearby residential areas, commercial establishments and public infrastructure, the blaze was swiftly brought under control, before it could escalate into a full-blown catastrophe, thanks to the prompt and coordinated response of the Assam Rifles, defence PRO Lt Col M Rawat said.Responding to an emergency call, a team of 63 Assam Rifles personnel was immediately deployed to the site.
“Armed with firefighting equipment and trained in disaster response, the troops battled the flames under challenging conditions. Their efforts, in close coordination with local authorities, fire services and community volunteers, were crucial in averting loss of life and minimising property damage,” he added.The operation also included the evacuation of vulnerable residents from the danger zone. Assam Rifles personnel administered first aid to individuals suffering from smoke inhalation and minor burns, ensuring timely medical support.
“This incident highlights the preparedness and dedication of Assam Rifles in handling emergencies beyond their conventional duties,” the PRO said. “Their seamless coordination with civil agencies reflects their commitment to the safety and well-being of the people of the northeast.”
