The Atchutapuram police on Sunday (May 31, 2026) exhumed the body of a 30-year-old man nearly three months after his burial, acting on suspicions his mother had raised about the circumstances of his death.
The deceased, Shaik Khan, died on Saturday (February 28, 2026), the police said. His wife had told relatives that he suffered a heart attack, family members said. But Mr. Khan’s mother, Saidu Bibi, suspected foul play and believed her son’s death was not natural.

Unsatisfied with the explanation given about her son’s death, Ms. Bibi approached Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha, seeking help and a thorough investigation into the matter. After her complaint, the SP ordered an inquiry, and the police began further investigation.
On Sunday, Mr. Khan’s body was exhumed in the presence of revenue and medical officials. A team of doctors also conducted a post-mortem examination on the spot and collected samples.
The medical team will send the forensic samples to a forensic science laboratory for detailed analysis, the police said. They said the report will provide further details and confirm whether he had a heart attack, as claimed, or whether there was foul play. Further investigation is under way.
