Police on Tuesday arrested the main accused involved in the attack on a pregnant woman, who objected to the birthday celebrations of former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in front of her house, couple of days back.
Speaking to media persons, Kadiri Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sivannarayana Swamy said that the woman, Pushpala Sandhya Rani, from Mutyalavaripalle village of Tanakallu mandal in Sri Sathya Sai district was six months pregnant. On December 21 (Sunday), around 7.30 p.m., the woman’s neighbours, P. Ajay Dev, his father Anjinappa and other family members, organised birthday celebrations of the YSRCP chief in front of their house.
Ajay Dev and others cut a cake and burst crackers in front of Sandhya Rani’s house. She came out of the house and asked them not to burst crackers that emanate loud noise as she was pregnant. Ajay Dev and others picked up an argument with her for objecting the celebrations and allegedly used abusive language against her.
As tempers ran high, Ajay Dev brought a stick and reportedly tried to attack Sandhya Rani, who managed to escape from being hit. Ajay Dev caught Sandhya Rani by her neck, pushed her down to the ground and kicked on her stomach, the DSP said.
The accused later fled from the spot and a case was registered based on a complaint by the woman. Tanakallu police arrested Ajay Dev at BT Cross on the Kadiri-Madanapalle road on National Highway 42 on Tuesday, the DSP said.
