District Collector V. Vigneshwari on Thursday lifted the ban on adventure tourism, trekking, and water-related tourism activities in the district.
The Collector had issued an order on May 24 suspending tourism activities in the district on the wake of heavy rain alert. The ban was lifted after the rain subsided and red, orange alerts in the district were withdraw, said the Collector.
She further directed the tahsildars in each taluk, who are also the taluk incident commanders, to implement a local tourism ban in their jurisdiction based on reports from village officers, if situation demands it.
District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) secretary Jitheesh Jose said that adventure tourism activities, including the glass bridge in Wagamon, will be open for tourists from Friday.
Meanwhile, tourism stakeholders said that the early arrival of monsoon had badly affected tourist arrival in the district. “Several tourists cancelled their trip to the district after heavy rain alerts were issued,“ they said.
