SBI plans 3,500 officer recruitments this year; targets 30% workforce for women

The State Bank of India (SBI) is set to recruit around 3,500 officers to strengthen its operations and improve service delivery across the country.SBI deputy managing director (HR) and chief development officer Kishore Kumar Poludasu was quoted by news agency PTI as saying that the bank has already recruited 505 Probationary Officers (POs) in June and has begun filling a similar number of vacancies.

“The advertisement for 541 PO vacancies is out. Applications have already been received,” he said, adding that the recruitment process involves preliminaries, mains, and a psychometric test followed by interviews.Poludasu said that about 1,300 specialist officers have been selected to handle the IT and cybersecurity space. Additionally, around 3,000 circle-based officers are being considered for recruitment, which is expected to conclude within the current financial year.Earlier, SBI chairman C S Setty announced that total recruitment across categories this year would be about 18,000, including around 13,500 clerical posts, with the rest comprising probationary and locally based officers. In the first quarter, SBI recruited 13,455 junior associates and 505 POs to enhance customer service at its branches nationwide.Poludasu also highlighted SBI’s focus on gender diversity, with the bank aiming to raise the share of women employees to 30 per cent within five years.

“If we talk about frontline staff, women are almost 33 per cent, but as a total, they account for 27 per cent of the total workforce. So, we will be working towards improving this percentage,” he said, as per PTI.With a workforce of over 2.4 lakh employees, SBI is among India’s largest employers. Poludasu said the bank remains committed to creating a workplace “where women thrive at all levels,” through initiatives like creche allowances, family connect programmes, and leadership development under its ‘Empower Her’ initiative, designed to mentor and groom women for senior roles.
