BAREILLY: A Sub-Inspector, Narendra Raghav, deployed at Bhamaura police station in Bareilly was suspended after a purported video of him surfaced showing him kicking parked motorcycles and threatening people in Bareilly’s Devchara market during the recent festive season. The video, which was widely circulated on Wednesday, shows the cop in uniform vandalising bikes and abusing locals. Witnesses alleged that Raghav also threatened to jail those who protested his behaviour.Taking immediate cognizance, SSP Anurag Arya suspended the officer and ordered a departmental inquiry. CO Amla Nitin Kumar, who led the probe, confirmed the allegations and said that the act had “tarnished the image of the police department.”The incident took place when the Devchara market was packed with festival shoppers. Local traders expressed anger, saying police are meant to ensure order during festive crowds, not intimidate citizens. Now, people are fearing to visit our shops.CO added further disciplinary action is underway, adding that “misuse of uniform power will not be tolerated.”
