Union Home Minister Amit Shah invoked the 2008 Batla House encounter, and the "shedding of tears" by senior Congress leaders for the slain terrorists to attack the party over its soft approach to terrorism.

In a fiery speech in the Lok Sabha, Shah asserted that armed forces under the BJP regime managed to kill the Pahalgam attackers within three months, and questioned the action taken against terrorists by the UPA.

"They (the opposition) were asking yesterday where the perpetrators of Pahalgam went... Those who were hiding during your tenure are being searched and killed today," Shah said.

The Union Home Minister then invoked the Batla House encounter of September 19, 2008, to attack the Congress, referring to how he saw party leader Salman Khurshid crying for the dead terrorists.

"Early morning, I was having breakfast when I saw Salman Khurshid crying. I thought something serious had happened. He said Sonia Gandhi cried for the Batla House terrorists. If she had to cry, she should've cried for martyr Mohan Sharma instead," Shah said.
