HYDERABAD
BC welfare organisations have demanded that the Telangana government conduct the MPTC and ZPTC elections only after providing 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs). A meeting of 14 BC organisations under the aegis of Telangana BC JAC was held here on Sunday.
The participants of the meeting presided over by National BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah and general secretary Ryaga Arun Kumar warned that the BC organisations would not give in until the State government implements the enhanced reservations for Backward Classes and conducts the MPTC and ZPTC elections, which are in the offing.
Mr. Krishnaiah observed that they had allowed the government to conduct the Gram Panchayat elections without implementing the 42% quota for BCs on a non-party basis. But, we will not allow the State government to conduct the MPTC and ZPTC elections without providing 42% reservation for BCs, they said.
Several leaders pointed out that, as per Article 243(D)(6), the State government can take a call on the quota. They also recalled that the government had issued a just GO No. 9 to provide reservations for BCs after considering various aspects. The BC leaders further demanded that the State government ensure the appointment of experienced advocates to argue in the Supreme Court to secure a verdict in favour of 42 per cent reservation for BCs.
