Napoli superstar Scott McTominay brushed off suggestions that players who leave the Premier League strugglers and Manchester United academy tend to get better.

The 29-year-old Scott, a Manchester United academy product, defended his former club during his interaction with Kate Abdo in a nod to his gratitude and love for the Red Devils.

“I disagree. It’s too easy of an excuse. I think it’s too easy to say that," the former United midfielder said.

“Whenever I was there they helped me with everything. Tactically, training, nutrition, everything is there for you to succeed," he explained.

“It’s not like they don’t give you certain things that other clubs do, it’s a myth."

“Because the spotlight is directly on you, it makes it seem a lot worse. In my last year I did well, scored 10 goals and we won a trophy," the 29-year-old Napoli star elucidated.

McTominay has flourished following his transfer to Italy as he led Antonio Conte’s Napoli to the Scudetto title in his first attempt and was also awarded the Most Valuable Player in the league for his showing in the 2024/25 season.

McTominay netted as many as 12 times and set up 6 goals in an incredible campaign for himself and his team as he helped the Naples-based side to their fourth Serie A title in stunning fashion.

Holders Napoli stand third in the Italian top-flight in the ongoing campaign, just two off leaders Inter and one behind second-placed AC Milan at the end of 15 fixtures as Conte and Co. look to defend their crown.
