As the war between Israel and Iran enters its 19th day on Wednesday, with both sides being relentless in attacking each other, a fresh video clip has surfaced on the social media platforms, showing the exact moment when a multi-storey building collapsed within seconds of the strike, sending up a huge cloud of dust and smoke.
According to a report by AFP, the strike took place in the morning after the Israeli military called on residents of the city’s central neighbourhood to evacuate, warning of an imminent attack on the Lebanese capital targeting the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah.
Reports say that dozens of people were killed and injured in the missile attack. Amid the war, strikes by the Israeli military targeting central Beirut have become frequent in the last few days. These strikes come with or without prior warning.
Meanwhile, air strikes carried out by Israel also pounded the Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs of Beirut, reported Reuters. Also, Israel has launched a number of attacks in central areas of the city.
So far more than 900 people have been killed by Israeli attacks in Lebanon following Hezbollah’s entry into the war in support of Iran on March 2. Lebanese authorities claim that the war has forced over 1 million people to leave their homes.
On the other hand, there have been no fatalities reported by Israel in rocket and drone attacks led by Hezbollah, except two Israeli soldiers, who were killed in southern Lebanon regions during the attacks.
On Wednesday, Iran’s National Security Council confirmed the death of its security chief, Ali Larijani, in an overnight Israeli strike, which marked a major setback for the Islamic Republic amid the ongoing war.
“The pure souls of the martyrs embraced the purified soul of God’s righteous servant, Martyr Dr. Ali Larijani," Iran’s state media read in a statement from the council.
The Iranian army threatened to launch a “decisive and regrettable" retaliation for the killing of their security chief.
“Iran’s response to the assassination of the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council will be decisive and regrettable," Iranian army chief Amir Hatami said in a statement.
