Belagavi division of the NWKRTC has managed to earn unprecedented levels of revenue from leasing out commercial establishments on its premises with the use of technological tools and fiscal discipline.

The division has crossed its revenue targets of ₹73 lakh per month and realised ₹78 lakh, which includes arrears. These are the amounts collected monthly from 174 shops and establishments on NWKRTC premises. The collection, accounting, and data aggregation have become easy after implementing the E-Malige mobile application. The application was introduced across the nine divisions of the corporation in September 2025.

What is more, the division has already collected nearly 80% of its rent for October. Officers have managed to collect a significant amount of long-pending arrears.

Divisional Controller K.L. Gudennavar told The Hindu that the app had reduced paperwork and given more time to officers to follow up on old arrears and other issues. Earlier, during the days of manual rent collection or account maintenance, a lot of time was wasted for both the corporation and the shop owners. Now, both of us have enough time. The shop owners and officers both get automated alerts for payments. Demands and receipts are generated on time and shared with both parties. Apart from regular payments, arrears are also monitored in real time. Due to this, officers were able to focus on long-pending arrears or routine delayed payments, the DC said.

NWKRTC Managing Director M. Priyanga issued a letter of commendation to the senior officers K.L. Gudennavar, divisional controller, and transport officer Devakka Nayak in a ceremony in Hubballi on Thursday. The letter said that the division had achieved the goal of generating more commercial income from the licensees of commercial outlets under its jurisdiction for the month of September.
