There was another bizarre incident during the India vs England match in a series full of them as the Indian batters Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar declined England captain Ben Stokes’ proposal to end the match as a draw even before the scheduled end of the day’s play.
It happened after the 138th over which was bowled by Joe Root as Stokes went towards the India batters to end the match then and there as a draw but his request was swiftly turned down. Stokes did not look at all amused with the decision as the umpires asked both sets of players to carry on.
Jadeja continued his consistent form in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test series when he slammed his 5th century in the longest format in the last day of the 5th match at Manchester on Sunday as he and Washington Sundar helped India stay steady and aim for a draw.
The allrounder slammed 12 fours and 1 sixe in 182 balls to get to his milestone with Sundar also closing in on his own ton. This was another gritty innings for the Saurashtra who almost pulled off a miracle in the Lord’s Test a couple of weeks ago but India ultimately fell 22 runs short.
What the law says

A minimum of 15 overs shall be bowled in the last hour and all calculations with regard to suspensions of play or the start of a new innings shall be based on 1 over for each full 4 minutes (refer to clause 12.7.9 below).
22 On the final day, if both captains (the batters at the wicket may act for their captain) accept that there is no prospect of either side achieving a victory, they may agree to finish the match after (a) the time for the commencement of the last hour has been reached OR (b) there are a minimum of 15 overs to be bowled, whichever is the later.
