The Bengal government has constituted two separate commissions to investigate allegations of institutional corruption and atrocities against women that occurred after the elections in 2021. The Chief Minister announced that the commission focusing on crimes against women, particularly those from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and minority groups, will be chaired by a former judge, with a senior police officer serving as the member secretary. A second commission has been formed to probe institutional corruption, specifically regarding schemes like the midday meal and housing projects under the previous regime. The formation of these investigative panels fulfils major promises made during the recent election campaign. The government has stated that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty and efforts will be made to recover siphoned funds. Meanwhile, the opposition party has criticised the move, alleging that the current administration is engaging in revenge politics and targeting their leaders.
