West Bengal’s proposed ‘Babri Masjid’ site is set to hold its first Friday prayers, or Jumu’ah namaz, today. Suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone of the Ayodhya-styled Babri mosque in Murshidabad district on December 6. Ahead of elections in 2026, this mosque has stirred communal tensions in the state.
As per a report by NDTV, the preparations for the Friday prayer are in full swing at the site of the proposed mosque. Hundreds of Muslims have already gathered at the site since morning.
Furthermore, the report states that Khichdi is being prepared to feed the crowd visiting for namaz.
Rs 3 Crore Donation Received For Proposed Mosque
As per a report by PTI, donations for the proposed Babri Masjid-style mosque have reached nearly Rs 3 crore. The foundation stone of the mosque was laid at Rejinagar in Murshidabad district on Saturday.
According to Humayun Kabir, 12 donation boxes were placed at the site. So far, Rs 57 lakh has been counted from the boxes, while Rs 2.47 crore has been received through QR-code payments.
Upon laying the foundation stone, Kabir said, “I am not doing anything unconstitutional. Anyone can build a temple, anyone can build a church; I will build a mosque. It is being said that we cannot build the Babri Masjid. It is not written anywhere."
He also added that a Rs 300-crore budget has been allocated for the mosque, which will also include a hospital, guesthouse, and meeting hall. He reiterated his commitment to the project and said, “It is a promise of the Muslims: The Babri Masjid will be built, it will be built, it will be built."
