The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and Masab Tank Police on October 31 apprehended a drug peddler and seized narcotic substances worth ₹12 lakh during a joint operation.

The accused, Ejaz Ahmed, 28, a civil contractor from Bengaluru, was found in possession of 11 gm of MDMA, 35 gm of cocaine, 5 gm of OG kush, 15 ecstasy pills weighing 7.7 gm, ₹1,100 in cash and a mobile phone. A case under various sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, has been registered at Masab Tank Police Station.

Ejaz Ahmed, originally from Bihar, dropped out of his B.Tech course in Bengaluru in his final year.

Police said Ahmed took to drug consumption with friends during the lockdown in 2020 and gradually began peddling to fund his vices. “He sourced MDMA, cocaine, OG and ecstasy pills from Nigerian suppliers through a Bengaluru-based Nigerian transporter using WhatsApp for communication and online payments. He then travelled to Hyderabad to sell the drugs at higher prices to local buyers seeking narcotics,” explained an officer from the H-NEW.

The police cautioned that students and employees addicted to drugs are increasingly turning to peddling to support their consumption, thereby contributing to the city’s drug menace. HNEW urged citizens to stay away from narcotics and advised parents to monitor their children closely.

For information related to drug abuse or trafficking, the public has been requested to contact the HNEW team at 8712661601.
