After 4th-floor leap by girl, her father flags negligence; cops to verify body-cam video

BENGALURU: The father of a 21-year-old woman who was seriously injured after leaping from the fourth floor of a hotel in AECS Layout, Kundalahalli, in the early hours of Sunday has alleged negligence by the hotel management and filed a complaint seeking a detailed probe. He also raised concerns over the role of others present at the spot, including hotel staff and police personnel. The incident occurred after a night of partying, which led to police intervention. According to police, body-camera footage from the Hoysala patrol will be examined to verify claims made by the woman’s friends, including allegations of misconduct during the police response. “Videography is mandatory during patrols. Any wrongdoing found will be acted upon,” a senior officer said.

The injured woman is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Marathahalli after sustaining multiple injuries. Background: A group of young men and women had checked into three rooms on the hotel’s fourth floor on Saturday and allegedly partied through the night. Early on Sunday, another hotel guest lodged a nuisance complaint after some of them were heard shouting from a balcony. A Hoysala patrol from HAL police station reached the hotel and questioned the occupants.

The interaction was recorded on body-worn cameras, as required during patrols. During the questioning, Monisha allegedly ran towards the balcony and jumped, landing on the iron grills of a neighbouring building’s compound wall. Her friends, with police assistance, rushed her to a nearby hospital before she was later shifted to another facility for further treatment. A case has been registered under Section 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and an investigation is ongoing, police said.
