A 44-year-old woman sustained injuries to her head and face after her husband allegedly poured toilet cleaner acid on her after a fight over loud music playing on his mobile phone, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on May 19 in NMH Layout, Sidedahalli, in North Bengaluru, with the officials saying that the woman is currently recovering in a hospital and is out of danger.

Police said the woman, a professional beautician, alleged that around 9 pm on the day of the incident, her husband asked her for money to purchase alcohol.

When she refused, he began harassing her and eventually managed to obtain the money elsewhere.

He returned home intoxicated and started playing loud music on his phone. When she asked him to lower the volume, he refused, leading to a heated argument.

During the altercation, he allegedly fetched a bottle of toilet acid cleaner from the bathroom and poured it over her head and face.

Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to her aid and took her to the hospital. The accused fled the scene immediately after the attack.

“We have registered a case and efforts are being made to nab her husband. Further investigation is underway," a police official said.

A case has been registered under BNS Sections 124 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid, etc.), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 85 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty).
