BENGALURU: Originally scheduled for Friday (June 13) and postponed as a mark of respect for victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Karnataka BJP will now hold its dharna to protest the govt over its handling of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede incident, on Tuesday (June 17).The protest will be held at Freedom Park in Bengaluru and BJP will demand the resignation of chief minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar. The party also reiterated its demand for an emergency legislature session to debate the incident in which 11 people died. MLA K Gopalaiah said all legislators, district presidents, office-bearers and workers will participate.Meanwhile, in a letter to Siddaramaiah, opposition leader R Ashoka , while demanding a special legislature session, said: “The tragedy has caused anxiety and concern among the public.
Lapses in administration, the govt’s actions postincident, and attempts to shield influential individuals have led to widespread doubts.”He said an emergency session is “required” to seek answers from the govt. “The govt is talking about a new bill on crowd control. Let it be debated,” he said.In Kalaburagi, BJP state president BY Vijayendra said Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar were “solely responsible” for the stampede. “The govt has acted irresponsibly by suspending senior police officers. It is an unpardonable crime,” he said.
