A fluctuating weather pattern is unfolding across Karnataka as the state moves deeper into the summer season. While rising temperatures continue to grip several regions, intermittent rainfall has brought partial relief in recent days. However, the changing conditions have also raised concerns, particularly for farmers dealing with unseasonal showers.
Summer has set in across the state, with heat intensity increasing steadily. Despite the rising temperatures, several districts have been witnessing scattered rainfall, offering temporary respite to residents. In the past few days, parts of Karnataka also experienced hailstorms, adding to the unusual weather pattern for this time of the year.
Yellow Alert For 17 Districts
The India Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for the next two days across 17 districts. These include Kalaburagi, Raichur, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Kolar, along with Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural.
Since there is rainfall expected with thunder and lightning, the weather monitors have estimated the pattern particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
According to the IMD, the current spell of rain is linked to a low-pressure system that has formed over the Bay of Bengal. This system is influencing weather patterns across south interior, coastal and Malnad regions of Karnataka, leading to scattered thunderstorms across multiple districts.
Authorities have advised caution as lightning activity and sudden rain spells may impact normal routines, especially during peak afternoon and evening hours.
Farmers Face Growing Concern
While the rain has helped bring down temperatures slightly, it has also triggered anxiety among farmers. Untimely rainfall during the summer season can damage standing crops, with excess moisture increasing the risk of rotting. The recent hailstorms have further added to these concerns in agricultural regions.
The impact of the changing weather was visible in Belagavi district, where strong winds and rain led to a coconut tree falling on a house in Anigol village of Bailhongal taluk. A 70-year-old woman, Neelavva Yallayyanavar, and her 37-year-old son, Ulavappa Yallayyanavar, sustained minor injuries in the incident. The house was severely damaged, and locals rushed the injured to a nearby hospital.
Karnataka is expected to continue witnessing a mix of heat and rainfall over the next few days. While the showers may offer short-term relief from rising temperatures, the unpredictability of the weather remains a concern for both residents and farmers across the state.
