Tensions escalated in poll-bound West Bengal after allegations of violence surfaced in Behala Paschim in Kolkata, involving a candidate of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC).

TMC candidate Ratna Chatterjee has been accused of being involved in an incident of vandalism at a BJP office in the Parnasree area in Behala Paschim. Subsequently, an FIR was registered against her on Sunday in connection with the alleged incident. Chatterjee has been fielded from the Behala Paschim constituency for the upcoming state Assembly elections.

Reacting to the incident, BJP leader Amit Malviya shared a video capturing the vandalism on X and alleged police inaction.

“Kolkata, once considered the stronghold of the Trinamool Congress, is showing signs of cracks, and the desperation is evident. The BJP election office in Parnasree, Behala Paschim, was attacked by TMC goons in the presence of TMC candidate Ratna Chatterjee. Shockingly, police were present at the scene but failed to intervene and stop the violence," Malviya wrote on X.

Malviya further alleged bias on the part of the police and urged the Election Commission of India to take immediate action. “It is increasingly clear that certain elements within the Kolkata Police are siding with the TMC. We urge the Election Commission of India to act swiftly and ensure that those responsible are punished without delay. The people of West Bengal deserve law, order, and justice, not hooliganism," he added.

In a subsequent post on Monday, the BJP leader stated that an FIR had been lodged against the TMC candidate.

TMC Denies Allegations

The TMC, however, denied the allegations, rejecting claims that its members were involved in attacking the BJP office. The incident highlights rising political tensions ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, with both parties trading accusations over law and order in the state.
