Several parts of Bengaluru are likely to experience planned power interruptions this weekend as BESCOM and KPTCL carry out maintenance, repair and infrastructure upgrade works. The outages are expected to be daytime cuts, mainly to facilitate line repairs, underground cable work and substation maintenance.

Officials have said these are scheduled shutdowns and not load-shedding, but residents in multiple neighbourhoods are advised to plan ahead, especially those working from home or relying on electronic appliances during the day.

When Are the Power Cuts Expected?

The planned outages are expected on Saturday and Sunday, with most shutdowns scheduled between 9 AM and 5 PM. In some pockets, supply may be restored earlier depending on the progress of maintenance work, while in others, interruptions could last for several hours.

BESCOM officials have said weekend shutdowns are preferred as they reduce disruption to offices and commercial establishments.

Areas Likely to Be Affected on Saturday

On Saturday, power interruptions are expected in parts of North and West Bengaluru, particularly areas connected to substations undergoing maintenance.

Localities that may see outages include:

Yelahanka

Attur

Vidyaranyapura

Jakkur

Thanisandra

Hebbal

Sahakaranagar

Nagawara

Hennur

RT Nagar

Mathikere

Parts of Peenya Industrial Area, Laggere, Nandini Layout, and surrounding residential pockets may also see temporary power cuts due to feeder-level work.

Areas Likely to Be Affected on Sunday

On Sunday, maintenance work is expected to continue in other zones, affecting parts of East, South and Central Bengaluru.

Areas that may experience power cuts include:

Whitefield

KR Puram

Mahadevapura

Hoodi

AECS Layout

Varthur

Bellandur

Marathahalli

HSR Layout

BTM Layout

JP Nagar

Jayanagar

In central parts of the city, pockets around Majestic, Chickpet, Basavanagudi, and Gandhinagar may also face short-duration outages linked to underground cable work.

Why These Power Cuts Are Being Carried Out

According to officials, the shutdowns are required for replacement of old cables and transformers, line shifting for infrastructure projects, substation maintenance, tree trimming near high-tension lines, and underground cable repairs.

Authorities say such maintenance is essential to prevent unplanned outages later, especially ahead of peak summer demand.

What Residents Should Keep in Mind

BESCOM has advised residents to treat the announced timings as tentative and plan accordingly. While some areas may see supply restored sooner, others may experience longer interruptions if work takes more time than expected.

Residents using medical equipment, home offices, or lifts in apartment buildings are advised to ensure backup arrangements are in place.

How to Check If Your Area Is Affected

Since outages depend on specific feeders and substations, not entire localities may be affected. Residents can contact the BESCOM helpline at 1912, check notices from local BESCOM subdivision offices, or confirm with apartment associations or building managers.

Officials have said updates will be shared locally if schedules change.

Plan Ahead for the Weekend

With weekend plans, online meetings and household chores often lined up, residents are advised to charge phones, laptops and power banks in advance. Using heavy appliances like washing machines and geysers during outage hours may not be possible.

For many Bengalureans, planned power cuts are a familiar inconvenience. Authorities say advance notice and cooperation from residents can help ensure maintenance work is completed faster and with minimal disruption.
