Berhampur University launches plantation drive ahead of seva paksha to promote green campus

Revenue minister Suresh Pujari and transport minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena launched the drive on the campus on Monday

Berhampur: Berhampur University launched a plantation drive on Monday ahead of Seva Paksha, which be observed from Sept 17 to Oct 2 to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Revenue minister Suresh Pujari and transport minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena launched the drive on the campus, organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS) bureau under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0” initiative, in the presence of the vice chancellor Geetanjali Dash.The university aims to plant 2,000 saplings on campus during Seva Paksha. On the launching day, around 100 saplings were planted. “It’s also fulfilling the university’s green campus drive,” said the vice-chancellor.

Both the ministers urged the students to plant trees and conduct social work during the celebration of Seva Paksha.Jayant Panda, NSS programme coordinator of the university, said though primarily fruit-bearing trees would be planted on campus, several shadow-bearing and flower trees will also be planted during the drive.The university planned several programmes during Seva Paksha by the NSS, including a blood donation camp on Sept 17 and a campaign on “Swach Sagar Surakhit Sagar” at Gopalpur beach in collaboration with the OSPCB.
