On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, actor Saanand Verma, best known for his role in the popular sitcom Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain and his impactful performances in films like Vijay 69, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyaan, and the web series First Copy, opened up about the mentors and lessons that shaped his journey as an artist and individual.Reflecting on his unconventional life path, Saanand shared, “My life has been very different. Whatever I have learned, I have learned directly from life itself. By working day and night, through sheer hard work, I’ve gained my knowledge and experience. I did not study in the usual way that normal children do, going to school or college in a regular manner. That path was not possible for me. But life itself taught me many lessons.
”For Saanand, his first and most revered teachers will always be his parents. “A mother and father are the true gurus of life. Their role in shaping us is irreplaceable. You must bow at their feet because their contribution is something we can never repay,” he emphasized, highlighting the unmatchable value of parental guidance. While acknowledging that selfless mentors are rare today, Saanand points to how technology has become a modern source of learning.
“The era of true, selfless gurus belonged to the past. In today’s time, the biggest guru of all is YouTube. Whatever you want to learn, you can find videos there and gain knowledge from them.”Music holds a special place in his heart, and he recalls being fortunate to have trained under a respected classical music teacher. “In singing, I did have a guru — Pandit Satyanarayan Mishra. He gave me a lot of love and guidance. Unfortunately, I couldn’t take too many classes with him due to irregular schedules.
Still, I consider myself fortunate to have learned from him.”Saanand’s eternal gurus, however, are the legendary playback singers whose voices inspired him. “For me, Kishore Kumar will always remain number one. I have listened to his songs endlessly, and he has deeply inspired me. Along with him, Mohammad Rafi Sahab, Manna Dey, Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar ji, and Asha Bhosle ji are also my gurus. I almost worship Kishore Kumar for the brilliance and joy he brought into music.”As he concludes his reflections, Saanand reminds everyone, “Above all, the true gurus are our parents. They are the first and the greatest teachers in our lives. Hold onto their feet, give them your gratitude, and never forget that their contribution is something we can never repay.”
