 Youth arrested for killing girlfriend over engagement

BHOPAL: TT Nagar police on Wednesday claimed to have cracked the blind murder case reported in the Panchsheel Nagar area within 24 hours of the crime. The victim’s boyfriend was arrested and confessed to the killing.

Based on his disclosure, the knife used in the crime was also recovered. After the arrest, the accused was produced before the court and subsequently sent to jail.According to police, the 19-year-old girl was found dead in her room around 7:30 am on Tuesday. On inspection of the crime scene, it was revealed that her throat was slit with a knife. To mislead police, the accused also placed a shaving blade at the spot. A case was registered; the body was sent for post-mortem and later handed over to the family.Given the seriousness of the matter, DCP (Zone-1) Shashank formed a special team under TT Nagar SHO Gaurav Singh to trace the accused. Police interrogated about a dozen suspects before arresting Mubeen Khan, 20. During questioning, he admitted to slitting the girl’s throat with a knife. The weapon was later recovered at his instance.Engagement triggered the murder:TT Nagar SHO Gaurav Singh said that preliminary investigation revealed that Mubeen resided in the neighbourhood of the deceased.

He works as a tailor, befriended the girl around six to seven months ago, and the two soon developed a romantic relationship. However, about two months ago, her family arranged her engagement with a Koh-e-Fiza-based man, and the wedding was scheduled for October. Upset over this, Mubeen pressured her to break off the engagement. But the girl refused, saying she would marry according to her family’s wishes.On Monday night, Mubeen went to her house with a knife through an adjacent house's terrace. As he would visit her room in the past too, the woman was unaware of his plans. At around 3 am, he slit her throat and killed her before fleeing through the back door of the room. Further investigations are ongoing.
