The survivor-nun in the sexual abuse case against Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who resides at the St Francis Mission Home at Kuravilangad in Kottayam district, on Saturday (January 17, 2026) welcomed the Kerala government’s decision to appoint a special public prosecutor in the case.

Addressing the media, the nun, who chose to reveal her identity this time, said she was grateful that her request to the government had been accepted. She thanked the government, the Chief Minister, and the general public for the support extended to her. Reiterating that the legal battle against the Bishop would continue, she said the government had appointed as special public prosecutor the very person she had sought.

The State government had earlier decided to appoint former Law Secretary B.G. Harindranath as the special public prosecutor in the case.

A few days ago, the Civil Supplies department also issued ration cards to the survivor and two nuns residing with her. The nuns had been leading an isolated life within the convent, often struggling to meet even basic needs such as food.
