BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla has heaped praise on Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for his hard-hitting article critiquing dynastic politics in India, calling him a 'khatron ke khiladi' (one who plays with danger). However, he sounded a warning, saying he was praying for Tharoor as "the first family is very vengeful", in an apparent reference to the Gandhi family.

In his article called 'Indian Politics Are a Family Business' in Project Syndicate, Tharoor highlighted dynasty-led political parties in India, including the Congress, Trinamool Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party among others. He wrote that it was high time that India replaced dynasty with meritocracy.

In a tweet, Poonawalla, a former Congressman, who quit the party and joined the BJP in 2017, praised Tharoor's stance in calling out dynastic-based political parties.

"Dr Tharoor has become khatron ke khiladi. He has directly called out Nepo Kids or Nawabs of Nepotism. Sir, when I called out Nepo Naamdar Rahul Gandhi in 2017 - you know what happened to me. Sir, (I'm) praying for you. First family is very vengeful," he said.
