BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay being airlifted to Delhi
BJP MP and former Judge of Calcutta High Court Abhijit Gangopadhyay, who was admitted to hospital on Saturday, was airlifted to Delhi for further treatment Thursday. He is suffering from intestinal sepsis and is being taken in an air ambulance.
Abhijit Gangopadhyay was admitted to a private hospital in the metropolis after he complained of uneasiness. On Sunday, his condition was "critically ill but stable".
The hospital on Wednesday said that he had been diagnosed with “acute pancreatitis with gastrointestinal sepsis”, and was under the treatment of a multidisciplinary team of clinical specialists.
Gangopadhyay, 63, a former judge of the Calcutta High Court, was admitted to the hospital with complaints of vomiting and abdominal pain, after which he was kept under closed observation in the ICU.
A statement issued by the medical facility on Sunday said investigations have indicated acute pancreatitis with gastrointestinal sepsis.
"A multi-disciplinary medical board has been formed to ensure comprehensive and coordinated management of his condition," the statement added.
Gangopadhyay, who resigned as a judge of the Calcutta High Court in March last year, later joined the BJP and won the Tamluk Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal in the 2024 polls.
