Rajya Sabha lawmaker and former Uttar Pradesh director general of police Brij Lal has stirred the illegal infiltration debate by claiming that a large number of Bangladeshis have taken shelter in big cities of Uttar Pradesh, acquiring jobs and documents with the help of government officials. He has raised this issue with chief minister Yogi Adityanath and demanded a statewide drive to identify and deport such illegal immigrants.
During his morning walk, Brij Lal made a video alleging that the sanitation workers seen in the clip are not from Assam, as they claim, but from Bangladesh. He posted the video on Facebook, stating that these illegal Bangladeshi settlers acquire documents by bribing officials and manage to get cleaning or sanitation jobs in municipalities, giving them a foothold in the state.
“As an IPS officer, I was posted in Assam and witnessed how Bangladeshis were allowed to enter India illegally during Indira Gandhi’s time, which ultimately led to the Nellie violence. I am also the founder of the Anti-Terrorist Squad in UP, and with my vast experience, I can rightfully claim that this is an organised activity to give terrorists a hold on our system," said Brij Lal, who retired as the DGP of UP.
Lal said he would write to defence minister Rajnath Singh and chief minister Yogi Adityanath, seeking an extensive drive to weed out illegal settlers. “Rohingyas have established a vast base in cities of Uttar Pradesh. They are engaged in various jobs, from begging on the streets to selling balloons. They are also squatting on large tracts of land and have built slums on them," said Brij Lal.
He mentioned that Bangladesh is the headquarters of several terrorist organisations and that these illegal Bangladeshi settlers are part of HuJi and Gazwa-e-Hind networks.
Brij Lal, who entered politics after retiring as DGP and later became a Rajya Sabha member from the BJP, claimed that if the documents these illegal settlers possess are collected and sent to Assam for verification, the truth would immediately come out. He stated that during his deputation in Assam, he had witnessed the planned conspiracy of allowing Bangladeshis to settle in the state first and then enter other parts of the country.
