West Bengal BJP leader Agnimitra Paul was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata after suffering a mild brain stroke following health complications. This came hours after chaotic scenes unfolded in the Assembly during a heated debate over a resolution tabled by the Trinamool Congress.
Paul, a BJP MLA from Asansol South, was admitted to Fortis Hospital on Thursday night after feeling unwell. She was diagnosed with a mild brain stroke during a health check-up and was admitted to Fortis Hospital.
The 52-year-old is currently under the care of Dr Amit Halder. According to hospital sources, Paul's physical condition is stable and she is being kept under observation for the next 48 hours.
Hospital sources said nothing was alarming about her health. She is expected to undergo further tests and may be discharged soon, depending on her progress.
Paul was among the five suspended BJP MLAs for disrupting the proceedings of the Assembly on Thursday.
The House session became turbulent, with BJP MLAs creating chaos during Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's speech. Despite warnings from Speaker Biman Banerjee, the protest continued, leading to the suspension of BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh. A scuffle broke out when marshals were called to take Ghosh out, and both he and Paul were eventually hospitalised.
This is not the first time that Paul has been hospitalised. Last month, she was admitted to the hospital due to breathing difficulties and was diagnosed with a respiratory issue.
