The Telangana BJP has expressed confidence that it will significantly increase its strength in the villages, having already secured more than 600 sarpanch posts, up from 163 earlier, in the ongoing local body elections on Monday.
BJP State president N. Ramchander Rao told party leaders and cadre gathered at the State office on the occasion of Sardar Patel’s death anniversary that while the Congress and BRS are boasting about their victories, some of which were allegedly achieved through intimidation, people have genuinely supported the BJP.
“We are confident of winning many more seats in the third phase. We believe our tally in rural areas will increase by more than 300 seats. More than 45,000 ward members have already won on behalf of the party,” he claimed. Mr. Rao expressed gratitude to rural voters for placing their trust in the BJP and electing its ward members and sarpanches.
He also congratulated the Adilabad, Nirmal and Karimnagar district BJP presidents and their respective MLAs for the party’s performance. Winning a significant number of sarpanch positions, he said, reflects the growing public support for the party’s leadership, its commitment to grassroots development and its dedication to public service.
Turning to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s speech in Delhi during the Congress protest, Mr. Rao questioned why the Chief Minister was showing concern about alleged infiltrators from Pakistan and Bangladesh.
“Whose votes will be lost? Certainly not those of Indian citizens. Why this compassion for infiltrators from Pakistan and Bangladesh? Nowhere in the Constitution is there a provision allowing non-Indian citizens to have their names on the voters list. Only genuine Indian citizens must appear on the voter list, and eligible voters names will never be removed,” maintained the former MLC.
He accused the Congress, having lost the recent elections, of now trying to provoke people using caste, religion and regional sentiments. He asserted that the Constitution is safe only under a BJP government. “It is ironic that the Congress is preaching about constitutional values after violating and disrespecting the Constitution and weakening the institutions,” said the BJP leader.
The Congress is now left with only one or two States, and the day is not far when the people of India will completely reject the party, he added. Earlier, Mr. Rao, general secretary Goutham Rao, former MLAs Ch. Ramachandra Reddy and N.V.S.S. Prabhakar, chief spokesperson N.V. Subhash, and others paid tributes to Sardar Patel for ensuring the integration of the country, including Telangana. They accused the Congress of having ‘completely forgotten’ such a towering national leader.
