A 45-year-old man identified as Venkatesh, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his office in Vyalikaval in Central Bengaluru, police said on Thursday.
According to the police, residents alerted the control room after a foul stench emanated from a tours and travels office owned by Venkatesh. The police arrived at the spot, forced open the office doors, and found his decomposed body on the premises.
Preliminary investigations suggested that it could be a case of suicide.
However, the exact cause of death will be known only after an autopsy, the police said. The probe revealed that Venkatesh was reportedly facing financial difficulties, which may have driven him to take the extreme step. He had allegedly recorded a video explaining his financial problems before his death.
The Vyalikaval police have registered a case.
