Black Panther’s legacy after Chadwick Boseman
Chadwick Boseman brought T’Challa to life across multiple MCU films before his tragic death on August 28, 2020. He died following a private battle with colon cancer. Marvel Studios later confirmed it would not recast the role. As a result, T’Challa’s death was addressed in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, with Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, stepping up as the new Black Panther. Shuri is also confirmed to be part of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, while rumors are there that Damson Idris could portray a multiverse version of T’Challa in the same film, though this remains unconfirmed.
A new Avengers special brings back T’Challa
Before the MCU’s next big Avengers event, Marvel has released an animated Avengers special in 2025 titled 'Spidey and Iron Man: Avengers Team-Up.' The project acts as a crossover between Spidey and His Amazing Friends and Iron Man and His Awesome Friends, both aimed at younger audiences.
T’Challa appears as Black Panther in this animated outing, voiced by Cruz Flateau. He joins a compact Avengers lineup that includes Hulk, Ms.
Marvel, and Sam Wilson’s Captain America. According to ScreenRant, this version of Black Panther exists independently of ongoing MCU debates around recasting or multiverse variants.
How this Black Panther compares to previous versions
This animated version of T’Challa is clearly different from the live-action role seen in the MCU. Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther had several suit variations based on Wakandan technology and tradition. In contrast, the Avengers special presents a more armored and tech-focused design. The design has Iron Man-inspired features which makes this version stand out. While the design still respects the legacy of the character. For younger fans who didn’t get to see T’Challa continue, this animated depiction of the character provides a meaningful way to keep the character alive in Marvel’s growing universe.
