Former Spurs superstar Son Heung-min has been at the centre of a disturbing blackmail case — and the woman who claimed she was carrying his child is now headed to prison.

A woman surnamed Yang was sentenced to four years in jail on Monday after extorting 300 million won ($200,000) from Son, now a LAFC player, by sending him a foetal ultrasound image and threatening to go public.

Instead of coming clean, she reportedly blew the money on luxury goods, then — alongside an accomplice surnamed Yong, who was also her romantic partner — attempted to squeeze Son for another 70 million won.

Son reported the threats to the police, leading to both being arrested and charged. Yong received a two-year sentence for attempted blackmail.

Judge Im Jeong-bin said Yang went far beyond simple threats, taking “extreme measures" by contacting media and ad agencies in an effort to weaponise Son’s public image. The judge noted the Tottenham legend and current Los Angeles FC star suffered “considerable psychological distress" once the case became public.

The court also dismissed Yang’s claim that the pregnancy was Son’s, with Judge Im saying she never verified paternity and that her testimony was “inconsistent and difficult to accept." Local reports have speculated she may have terminated the pregnancy.

Son, now the second-highest-paid player in MLS, testified in a closed session last month. He joined LAFC in August in the league’s most expensive transfer, estimated at $26 million.
