Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp backed Liverpool star Mohamed Salah after the winger went public with his frustrations over being benched by club boss Arne Slot.
Klopp explained Salah’s mindset, stating that the 33-year-old has always wanted to go out on the field and give his best for the team and isn’t too pleased with being put on the bench.
“We are all massively influenced by our past – how we were raised, where we grew up. Mo knew early on [in his life] that he had to do more than others.
“He always developed. He never stops. That is his mindset. After each summer break he came back and had a new skill. It was like he had spent the whole time just practising one particular type of pass.
“We pushed each other, just to make sure that we would never stop. And we never did stop. That moment lifting the Premier League bonded us for life. He will be remembered as one of the greatest of all time.
“I wouldn’t say he is easy to manage, but he is also not difficult to manage. You only have problems with Mo Salah if he is not playing or you take him off."
Salah, who has scored 250 goals in 420 appearances, has won two Premier League titles and the Champions League since joining from Roma in 2017. However, the Egyptian has struggled this season, scoring just five times in 19 appearances, as the Reds languish in ninth place, 10 points behind leaders Arsenal after 15 games.
Salah was left out of the Reds squad for their UEFA Champions League game against Inter due to his outburst, but the Reds managed a 0-1 win on the road despite the absence of the star winger.
Head coach Slot also discussed the potential reintegration of the disgruntled star, but posed an open question to the audience about who should make the first move. When Seedorf suggested that the onus was on the manager to welcome the player back, the Dutch coach curtly stated that it was the icon’s opinion.
