Two persons are feared dead and four others suffered injuries following a blast in a stone quarry at Dumagere near Hassan on June 5 night.

The district administration and the police received information about the blast late at night. Senior officers, including Deputy Commissioner C. Sathyabhama and Superintendent of Police Mohammed Sujeetha, visited the spot.

The four persons, who suffered injuries in the blast, are undergoing treatment in Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences. The condition of one is said to be critical.

Mohammed Sujeetha, the SP, told the media that the police received information about the incident late at night. “We have received information that two persons died. Four persons were injured and are under treatment. However, we are not sure of the toll. We are investigating,” she said.

The quarry is owned by Devraj, a resident of Hassan. When DC Sathyabhama questioned him about the blast, he insisted that nobody had died. The injured had been sent to a hospital. One of the injured persons had been sent to Bengaluru. The quarry owner denied reports of a blast.
