Gaganpreet Kaur, accused in the Delhi BMW crash that killed Finance Ministry official Navjot Singh, was on Tuesday brought to Tihar Jail after a city court remanded her to two days’ judicial custody.

Kaur was produced before Duty Judicial Magistrate First Class Akanksha Singh at the judge’s residence by Delhi Police. The Patiala House court also issued notice on her bail plea, which will be heard on September 17, when she is scheduled to be produced again.

Senior advocate Vikas Pahwa appeared for the accused, while advocate Ishan Dewan represented the victims. Counsel for Kaur opposed the remand, arguing that there was a delay of nearly 10 hours in the registration of the FIR.

The BMW driven by Kaur allegedly rammed into a motorcycle near Delhi Cantonment on Sunday, also hitting a bus during the collision. Navjot Singh, Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and a resident of Hari Nagar, succumbed to his injuries, while his wife sustained multiple fractures and head injuries.

Deceased Navjot Singh’s advocate, Ishan Dewan, told ANI: “The police demanded judicial custody and not police custody. The court has granted judicial custody for two days. The lawyer of the accused has moved a bail application today… What is important right now is that the unfortunate incident that has happened should not happen again… We will present all facts in the court."
