The district administration on Monday completed the process of handing over the bodies of all 19 persons who were charred to death when a private bus caught fire at Chinna Tekur in Kurnool district in the early hours of Friday.

Kurnool Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) K. Sandeep Kumar said that the family members of Prasanth (32) from Tamil Nadu arrived in Kurnool on Monday morning and received the body. “The family preferred to perform the final rites here itself, and we have made all necessary arrangements,” he said.

As the bodies were charred beyond recognition, the authorities collected DNA samples from the passengers and sent them to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Vijayawada for matching. The process of handing over the bodies to their family members began on Sunday after the DNA test results were received.

The district administration arranged ambulances to transport the bodies to the native places of the deceased and also provided food, accommodation, and transportation for their family members, the RDO added.
