The dead bodies of three boys, who drowned in the Gowthami, a branch of the Godavari, on Tuesday, were retrieved on Wednesday, at Raavi Lanka of Achanta mandal in West Godavari district.
The police and swimmers traced the bodies a few metres away from the spot where they reportedly drowned.
The deceased were identified as Sanaboyina Surya Teja (13), Neethipudi Paul Kumar (15), and Ketha Praveen Kumar (16). All of them belonged to Naagullanka village of P. Gannavaram mandal in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district.
“The victims reportedly drowned while they were taking a bath in the river. They arrived at Raavi Lanka on their bicycles to enjoy a bath in the river located on the other side of the village,” said Achanta Sub-Inspector K. Venkata Ramana.
The incident came to light after two friends of the deceased brought it to the notice of the victims’ parents. “We have completed the post mortem examination and handed over the bodies to their families. A case has been registered,” Mr. Venkata Ramana said.
