Bodies of woman, son recovered from Gomti

Lucknow: The bodies of a woman and her six-year-old son were recovered from the Gomti near the Lete Hue Hanuman temple area in Chowk, police said on Monday.“Police received information around 9 pm that a woman’s body was seen floating in the river.

A team reached the spot and with the help of divers and locals retrieved both bodies from the water.

The child’s body was found nearly 100 metres away from the woman,” the police said.During the preliminary investigation, a handwritten note was recovered from the woman’s burqa. According to police sources, the note mentioned harassment by in-laws, including her brother-in-law and mother-in-law, following the death of her husband around one-and-a-half-year ago.Family members later identified the deceased after approaching the police station to report the woman missing for the past two days, police said.SHO Nageshwar Upadhyay said the woman was wearing a burqa and green salwar, while the child was dressed in a blue T-shirt and denim shorts. Forensic teams inspected the scene and collected evidence.The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the deaths.
