Body of missing student found in closed well in Tamil Nadu school campus

A Class 11th student of a government-aided school was found dead in a closed well inside the school campus in Tamil Nadu’s Tirupattur district on Sunday.

The boy joined the school in class 9th and stayed in the campus hostel at Kothur village near Natrampalli town in Tirupattur.

On August 1, police said class teachers noticed that Mugilan was absent from school. The school authorities then contacted his parents to ask about his whereabouts, but the parents said he had not returned home.

After a complaint was filed by the deceased’s father, Chinnathambi, Tirupattur Town police registered a case and formed special teams to search for the boy. On Sunday, police discovered his body in the well, which was covered with an iron grill.

As his body was retrieved, the boy’s parents claimed foul play and raised questions about the case stating that the grill reportedly remained closed atop the well when the body was found.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident, a nine-year-old student of Class 4 died of a heart attack while opening her lunchbox during the break at Adarsh Vidya Mandir School in Dantaramgarh on Tuesday.

The incident took place around 11 am when students were having lunch in their classrooms. According to school principal Nandkishore, the girl collapsed suddenly while opening her tiffin. Staff members immediately rushed to help.

She was taken to the nearby Dantaramgarh Community Health Center, where doctors administered initial treatment and referred her to SK Hospital in Sikar for further care.

However, the girl suffered another heart attack while being moved into the ambulance and died on the spot.
