A Brazilian journalist has made a sensational claim that Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad was planning to assassinate Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and members of the Pakistani delegation during their visit to Switzerland for talks linked to the US-Iran peace efforts.

Delegations from Pakistan and Qatar were at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland as Iran and the United States concluded the first round of negotiations aimed at ending the West Asia conflict.

The claim was made by journalist Pepe Escobar during an appearance on a podcast hosted by political commentator Mario Nawfal.

“Pakistani military received ultra-credible information that the Mossad was preparing, under orders by Netanyahu, an assassination attempt against Asim Munir and maybe the rest of the Pakistani delegation going to Switzerland," Escobar said.

Escobar further claimed that Pakistan conveyed a warning to Israel, possibly through Oman, in response to the alleged assassination plot.

According to the journalist, the message sent by Islamabad was: “If you touch our delegation, we’re going to wipe you off the map, period."

However, the claim was swiftly dismissed by Pakistani authorities.

Kamran Khan, chairman of ARY News, said a well-placed Pakistani security official had described the allegation as “absolutely rubbish and complete nonsense".

According to the official, the entire Swiss visit by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir “proceeded like clockwork".

“At no point during the visit was there any security alert or even the slightest concern raised by the Swiss or US security teams," the official said.

The official added that Pakistan’s security arrangements remained fully in place throughout the stay of the Prime Minister and the Army chief in Lucerne.

Describing the allegation as “baseless fiction with no connection to reality", the official rejected reports of any assassination threat during the visit.
