The BRICS Parliamentary Forum on June 4-5 in Brasilia, Brazil, strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, with member parliaments agreeing to act collectively against terrorism.

The forum was attended by representatives from ten countries: India, Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia.

After multiple rounds of intensive discussions and deliberations, the forum reached a broad consensus on key global issues including the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), global trade and economy, inter-parliamentary cooperation, and global peace and security.

India’s firm policy on countering terrorism was strongly acknowledged during the meeting. The country unequivocally condemned all terrorist attacks and emphatically advocated for the adoption of a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism.

The joint declaration issued by the forum strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India, and reiterated the commitment of member parliaments to act collectively against terrorism.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla emphasised the need for joint efforts to curb financial support to terrorist organisations, enhance intelligence sharing, prevent the misuse of emerging technologies, and promote cooperation in investigation and judicial processes.

India assumed the chairmanship of the BRICS Parliamentary Forum and will host the 12th meeting next year. Mr. Birla was formally handed over the chairmanship at the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum held in Brasilia.
