The Eluru district Collector K. Vetriselvi has asked the agricultural officers to take steps to expand the area under natural farming in the district.
On Thursday, she conducted a whirlwind tour of several villages, including Dwaraka Tirumala, Gundugolanugunta, and Suryachandra Ravupeta in Dwaraka Tirumala mandal, and inspected the agricultural and allied sector practices.
Ms. Vetriselvi said that the use of chemical fertilizers may lead to health issues among the public, while the use of organic fertilizers and consumption of naturally grown produce can lead to improved health and potentially longer life spans. She emphasised that, compared to the current area under natural farming in the district, an additional 10,000 acres should be brought under natural farming this year. Both the central and State governments were encouraging farmers who practice natural farming, she said and urged agricultural officers to take steps to help farmers make full use of such support and expand cultivation accordingly.
The Collector noted that paddy and horticultural crops grown through natural farming were fetching good prices, and called upon officials to focus on providing better marketing facilities for these products.
