HYDERABAD

A delegation of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) met the authorities of Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi on Friday and requested them to conduct the byelection to Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency under the supervision of Central armed forces, alleging that Chief Minister, his Ministers and other leaders were resorting to misuse of power.

The delegation comprising Rajya Sabha members K.R. Suresh Reddy and D. Damodar Rao brought to the EC authorities’ notice that the Telangana police was acting in support of the ruling Congress party and to ensure a free and fair polling, the supervision of Central forces was necessary. As the number of women electorate was high in Jubilee Hills, there was a necessity to appoint more women election officers to prevent impersonation in polling.

BRS leader R.S. Praveen Kumar has requested the EC authorities to verify the distribution of money in government vehicles from a specified location in the Khairatabad division and alleged that vehicles sporting “government vehicle” stickers were in question.

Model code violation

A delegation of the party complained to Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudershan Reddy, alleging that Minister for Revenue and Housing Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy was resorting to the violation of model code of election conduct indiscriminately. They stated that speaking at a Vaddera Sangham meeting in the Borabanda division, the minister had promised that all those who had applied for double bedroom houses would be given houses immediately after the byelection.
