Bruno Fernandes has reportedly been given a ‘take it or leave it’ offer by the Saudi Pro League club, Al-Hilal, with the Portuguese star being handed a 72-hour deadline to decide if he wants to end his stint with Manchester United and make the move to Asia.
According to a report by The Daily Mirror, the Saudi-based club are willing to quadruple his current salary of 2,800,000 GBP per week to 7,000,000 GBP per week after taxes in a deal worth over 200 million GBP over three years which includes bonuses.
Fernandes’ representatives have been in negotiations with Al-Hilal for some time now, and the latter have provided a final offer. Should he accept the personal terms, the club are willing to go ahead and negotiate a deal with Manchester United for a deal around the 100 million GBP mark.
However, the report claims that United’s sources indicate that they do not want to sell their best player despite the club being under pressure financially after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, which resulted in the club losing out on Champions League football, resulting in over 100 million pounds being lost in revenue.
The star player had indicated following the Spurs defeat that should the club want to cash in, then he would be willing to go ahead with it. Al-Hilal are in pursuit of a marquee player for their upcoming campaign in the Fifa Club World Cup. But should the Fernandes deal not be possible, the club could go on and target Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans or Atalanta’s Ederson in Serie A.
Manchester United find themselves in a precarious position, having to remove a lot of deadwood and rebuild the squad that fits the vision of the manager Ruben Amorim. In the recent season, Fernandes, despite finding the goals and assists, has struggled to find the right position in the side, and this could prompt the club to consider his sale to find better-suited players for Amorim’s playstyle.
Currently, the club is on its post-season tour of Asia and is set to take on the ASEAN All Stars in Malaysia later on.
