Manchester United, who stand seventh in the English top-flight following their defeat at Villa Park, will be without the services of injured skipper Bruno Fernandes for nearly a month.
Fernandes, who picked up an injury during United’s 1-2 defeat against Aston Villa, is set to miss the side’s games against Newcastle, Wolves, Leeds, Burnley, and Manchester City in the PL, in addition to the FA Cup game against Brighton. Early reports suggest that the Portuguese maestro could return to action for United’s trip to Emirates on the 25th of January.
United slumped against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on Sunday, as Morgan Rogers’ double made Matheus Cunha’s goal for United merely a consolation.
Adding to Ruben Amorim’s woes, United’s captain Fernandes sustained an injury during the defeat to Unai Emery’s team and is expected to be sidelined for a significant period.
United have accumulated 26 points from 17 games this season, with seven wins, five draws, and five defeats. Meanwhile, Aston Villa climbed to third place in the league on the back of their 10th consecutive victory.
Ahead of their Premier League fixture against Newcastle, United have as many as eight players unavailable. This includes Casemiro, who has been suspended, and Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, and Matthijs De Ligt, who are out due to injury. Additionally, Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo, and Bryan Mbeumo are on international duty at the AFCON.
Amorim commented that it would not be wise to approach the winter transfer window with a sense of urgency to fill positions at the club, as this could lead to confusion and errors.
