BSPGCL signs power supply agreement with Adani Power for Bhagalpur's Pirpainti thermal power plant

Patna: Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) on Friday signed a long-term power supply agreement with Adani Power Limited for the upcoming Pirpainti thermal power project in Bhagalpur district.In Feb, the state cabinet had designated BSPGCL as the nodal agency for tendering of this projectThe project, with an installed capacity of 2,400 MW, will be developed at an estimated cost of around Rs 30,000 crore, making it one of the largest investments in the energy sector in Bihar’s history.On the occasion, state’s energy, planning and development minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said, “It is the biggest-ever investment in Bihar’s power sector since independence.

It clearly reflects the state’s position as an emerging destination for major investments.”“Since 2005, the reforms in the electricity sector have transformed the state, bringing light to every street and village, while also generating large-scale employment,” the minister said.State’s energy secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, while outlining the project timeline, said, “Our target is to commission the first unit by Diwali 2028, while efforts will be made to complete it ahead of schedule.”

Managing director of BSPGCL, Mahendra Kumar, emphasised on the speed of progress and said the decision to establish this project was taken in Feb and within just seven months we are signing the power supply agreement in Sept. Our team is fully prepared to complete the project in a time-bound manner.The agreement was formally signed at Vidyut Bhavan in Patna by chief engineer Murtaza Halal along with Purushottam Prasad and Deepak Kumar Singh from BSPHCL, and Abhishek Tyagi representing Adani Power Limited, in the presence of senior officials.
